The Shape of You
Shopping for Your Size in the GLP‑1 Era
There’s a new kind of silence in the fitting rooms lately. Not the usual hush of concentration or the quiet panic when something doesn’t zip. No—this is something different: a searching, unsettled stillness. A woman standing in front of the mirror asks, “Who is this? And what does she wear now?”

We are living in the GLP‑1 era—Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro—once whispered about at dermatology appointments, now as common as a Pilates class. And with it, the body is back in play. (Resources are linked below.)
Weight is shifting, quickly. Closets are groaning under the pressure of identities in flux. And I see it in my work every week: women who’ve undergone profound physical transformation, suddenly strangers to their wardrobes.
This isn’t a weight‑loss piece. It’s a style piece. And it’s about something more profound: what to wear when the person you see in the mirror isn’t quite the one you’ve known—or the one you’re becoming.
1. The Psyche of a Shifting Body
Let’s start here: clothing is more than armor or ornament. Its identity. It’s emotional architecture. And when the scaffolding shifts—when your waistline moves or your face transforms—your sense of self can feel unmoored.
What I hear from clients is not “I don’t know what fits.”
It’s more like:
“I don’t know who I’m dressing anymore.”
This is identity lag—when your body evolves faster than your psyche can catch up. You may have dropped two dress sizes, but you're still shopping like the old you—or avoiding shopping altogether, suspended in transitional limbo.
The answer isn’t to wait until you’ve “arrived.” There is no finish line. The goal is not to dress the before or the after—it’s to dress the now.
2. What to Buy When You’re Becoming
In times of physical change, many default to temporary clothing—cheap, elastic, colorless—as if their current self is only a placeholder. I disagree.
You deserve beauty in the in‑between. In fact, you may need it more than ever.
Here’s how I guide clients in a shifting body:
Invest in adjustability. Tailored pieces with waist ties, wrap silhouettes, bias cuts, and subtle stretch. Structure—without strangulation.
Elevate your basics. A perfect white shirt, a sculptural sandal, a beautifully draped pant—these are emotional stabilizers.
Mind the mid‑layer. Vests, cropped jackets, oversized blazers—they add instant polish and give form to a body in motion.
Be ruthless with the outdated. Nothing ages you faster than clothes that belong to a past version of you—emotionally or aesthetically.
Refit what loves you back. A trusted tailor is gold—as is the knowledge of what to let go.
A more petite body is not always an easier one to dress. Proportions shift, and your relationship to volume recalibrates; oddly enough, some pieces that fit may no longer feel right.
3. The Emotional Fit Is the Real Fit
Some feel triumphant. Others feel destabilized. Most feel both—and then guilty for feeling anything at all. There’s even a strange new invisibility that surprises many: a dissociation from the body you now inhabit. You float above it.
Clothing can ground you again. But only if it’s in emotional alignment.
Ask yourself:
Does this feel like me now?
Do I feel expressed—or disguised?
Am I dressing to be seen—or to disappear?
You are not a size. You are a frequency. Dress for that.

4. This Is the Moment to Call in Help
You don’t have to navigate this alone.

From my heart to yours, Lisa ❤️

You always put into words what I intuitively sense about my body and clothes, but you put it all together so articulately it helps me reassess every time I read one of your posts. It's so true that you have to be ruthless about discarding clothes that don't express who you have become. I'm heading right to my closet to take a look!!
Loved this Lisa!! So spot on.
